Afghan Association Paiwand is a community-led charity based in London. Founded by Afghan refugees, we now work with people from all backgrounds who have been displaced or are rebuilding their lives in the UK.
Through advocacy, housing, education, and wellbeing support, we help individuals and families find safety, independence, and belonging.

Paiwand began in 2002, when six friends who had fled conflict in Afghanistan persuaded a local school in Edgware to let them use its classrooms on Saturdays. Together, they created a small space where refugee parents and children could learn, connect, and find a sense of belonging in their new community.
One of the founders, Farid Mall, remained devoted to the cause for sixteen years. Through his dedication, Paiwand grew from a single classroom into a trusted organisation supporting more than two thousand people from around the world across North-West London.
When Farid stepped down in 2017, our community celebrated his service and wished him every success in the future. His vision continues to guide us today as we work to help refugees and asylum seekers settle, rebuild, and thrive.
Over the past two decades, Paiwand has supported thousands of people across North-West London.
Each number represents a story of strength, hope, and community.
