Job Title: Wellbeing and Support officer

Salary: £15,000 plus pension contribution

Contract length: October 2021

Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days)

Reports to: Director

Location: Harrow (main office + outreach)

Introduction

Afghan Association Paiwand (Paiwand) is a registered charity and limited company founded in 2002. Paiwand aims to benefit the Afghan and other Refugee and Migrant communities in the United Kingdom through reducing poverty, advancing education, and relieving suffering through a number of services including advocacy, mental health support, supplementary education, social support, accommodation for unaccompanied minors, youth and mentoring services and others. It currently assists over 2000 beneficiaries each year throughout North and North West London.

Aims of the post

  • To support unaccompanied and former unaccompanied minor young men with settling into semi-independent living in the UK;
  • To create a welcoming and safe space for residents throughout the supported accommodation service;
  • To provide an efficient service that adheres to best practice, working closely with partners including Local Authority children’s services, colleges, healthcare providers and the job centre.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • To oversee and support up to 12 young residents (all male, 16-21);
  • To conduct needs assessments with young people;
  • To draw up Action Plans in accordance with social services’ outcomes for each child and ensuring their progress;
  • To signpost and liaise with relevant professionals on behalf of each young person;
  • Key work duties for young people, including scheduling and assigning some key work duties to Accommodation & Development Manager. Key work duties include attending and advocating at appointments with college, health settings, legal meetings, Home Office, court, job centre.
  • To be the main point of contact for individual social workers from looked-after children teams;
  • To attend LAC review meetings and follow up on actions discussed;
  • To maintain accurate files for each young person, including action plans and copies of all important documents;
  • To be on-call on designated evenings and/or weekends;
  • To run monthly life skills workshops (CV writing, mental wellbeing, sexual health, etc.) for residents from each house.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • To report monthly and annually to the Director
  • Monthly reporting on each young person’s progress to social services;
  • To participate in the collection of data for monitoring and evaluation of Paiwand’s supported accommodation services;
  • To maintain the confidentiality of clients with external parties at all times unless authorised otherwise by the line manager.

Networking and publicity

  • To publicise Paiwand’s supported accommodation services to potential partners through visits to projects, community organisations and statutory services;
  • To work collaboratively with said organisations to ensure effective partnership and promote best practice.

General

  • To attend and participate in regular supervision with the line manager;
  • To take part in training and professional development;
  • To attend team meetings;
  • To participate in cover arrangements for absent colleagues;
  • To carry out other relevant duties at the request of the line manager;
  • To be flexible in working hours – occasional evening and weekend work will be required for which time off in lieu will be given. The Wellbeing and Support Manager is encouraged to work flexitime and manage his/her own schedule to ensure he/she is not working excessive overtime.
